Seven die of Covid as Tamil Nadu logs 890 new cases – Times of India

CHENNAI: With the number of Covid cases on the rise, Tamil Nadu on Thursday reported 890 fresh infections. Of these, Chennai a ccounted for 397 cases with the test positivity rare of 1. 4% — double the state’s average. Despite a significant surge, the fatality rate remained low. With seven deaths, the state’s cumulative toll climbed to 36,765.
Union health secretary Rajesh Bhusan wrote to Tamil Nadu requesting proactive measures in Chennai. State health secretary J Radhakrishnan said that Chennai, Chengalpet, Kancheepuram, and Tiruvallur will be the immediate focus areas, and hospitals here have been advised to screen samples of people, who were in contact with Covid patients, their attendees, and out-patients.
The state g overnment has added 50 beds in case of a sudden surge in cases. Besides Chennai, all other district collectors have been advised to follow the protocols. Overall, 141 patients had S-gene dropout in TN, and 46 weree found to be infected with the Omicron variant. Among them, 29 got discharged and 17 are undergoing treatment.
On Thursday, 1. 69 lakh people took the vaccine against Covid-19.
