CHENNAI: History-sheeter Padappai Guna, who is facing several cases, surrendered before a magistrate court at Saidapet in Chennai on Tuesday morning even as the Kancheepuram police launched a hunt for him.
Guna, 41, of Maduramangalam village near Sriperumbudur, is facing more than 25 cases — including murder, attempt to murder, kidnap and extortion — in Chengalpet and Kancheepuram districts.
Many small manufacturing units and other factories in Kancheepuram and Chengalpet district have been facing trouble from criminal gangs that demand money.
A special team headed by ADSP Velladurai was formed to nab Guna, who had been on the run for nearly six months.
Velladurai has been part of many encounter killings that happened in various districts in the state in the last 25 years. He was a member of the Special Task Force of TN police that gunned down forest brigand Veerappan in 2004. In Chennai, he was part of the squad that gunned down gangster Veeramani in 2003.
