CHENNAI: Two months after being appointed Acting Chief Justice of the Madras high court, the Supreme Court collegium has recommended elevation of Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari as the chief justice of the court.
“The Supreme Court collegium, in its meeting held on December 14, 2021 and January 29, has recommended the elevation of Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari as Chief Justice of the Madras high court,” the statement released by the collegium said.
Once the union law ministry approves the recommendation, Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari would be appointed as chief of the chartered Madras high court.
Hailing from the Rajasthan high court, Justice Bhandari was born on September 13, 1960. He was appointed as a judge of the Rajasthan high court on July 5, 2007. Subsequently, he was transferred to the Allahabad high court on March 15, 2019.
As an advocate, he primarily practised before the Rajasthan high court at Jodhpur and Jaipur, Central Administrative Tribunal, Jaipur and initially in the Supreme Court in Constitutional, Civil, Service, Labour, Criminal and Arbitration matters and specialised in Constitutional, Service, Labour & Arbitration matters.
