Tamil Nadu, Chennai News Live Updates Today: The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu on Thursday extended support to the two-day nationwide strike later this month, called for by various trade unions against the Centre’s policies. DMK General Secretary and state Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan said various trade unions including the party-backed Labour Progressive Federation (LPF) had met DMK President and Chief Minister M K Stalin and requested for support to the strike, slated for March 28 and 29.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday assured to expedite the flood mitigation measures in Chennai to prevent inundation during monsoon. The Chief Minister, who interacted with the residents during his inspection of the new network of stormwater drainages being laid at Vepery High Road and Pulianthope, here, assured the residents to expedite the works and take appropriate steps to prevent inundation in the city during monsoon.

In other news, Stalin on Thursday reiterated his plea to the Centre to take steps to re-designate Chennai as an embarkation point for the Haj pilgrims this year. Recalling his November 2021 letter addressed to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting to designate Chennai as an embarkation point for Haj 2022, the Chief Minister said every year over 4,000 Haj pilgrims from Tamil Nadu proceed on the pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia from Chennai.
