Chennai News

CHENNAI: Digital infrastructure company Equinix said on Monday it has invested over $9 million to acquire a land parcel in Chennai on a long-term lease basis to set up a new data centre facility.
The company has contracted with the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) to acquire a space of over 5.5 acres in the SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri.
Equinix said it will build the new data centre in the next few quarters, but did not disclose specifics of the facility at this stage.
“We have contracted with SIPCOT for this land to build a data centre in Chennai. It is a destination our customers also want us to be in. Being located strategically in the IT corridor, we will also be able to stay close to the large IT back-end providers for their third party data centre needs,” Manoj Paul, MD, Equinix India told TOI.
“Many of our customers are keen to expand beyond Mumbai, and Chennai is often their next requested destination,” he added. With a strategic location, access to subsea cable landing stations, stable power supply and thriving IT infrastructure, Chennai is emerging as a data centre hub.
