Chennai Corporation removes 70 encroachments on Marina Loop Road – Times of India

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation on Friday removed 70 fish stalls on the sides of the Marina Loop Road in Foreshore Estate.
Officials said they had faced some resistance from the locals but they removed almost all the encroachments on the beach side with the help of police.
Bob cat vehicles were used to raze down the makeshift stalls of vendors who refused to remove the stalls and vacate.
This encroachment removal drive is part of the fish market construction done at a cost of Rs 9.97 crore.
As per the GO issued by the municipal administration department, the fish market will have 336 stalls, drinking water facilities, toilets and a separate space to clean fish.
