Chennai News

A 28-year-old woman, travelling in a government bus in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, confronted a passenger who allegedly harassed her.

The woman, who also recorded the entire act, alleged that the man slid his hands through the seat and inappropriately touched her.

The incident happened when the woman and her mother were travelling from Chennai to Vellore in a government bus on Friday.

The man has been identified as Raghavan (40), a resident of Krishnagiri.

After the passengers boarded the bus from Koyembedu bus stand in Chennai, the man allegedly started harassing her.

Initially, the woman thought that he touched her by mistake, but after some time, he slid his hands and tried to touch her inappropriately and acted like he slept.

The woman then took out a safety pin, pricked his hand and also recorded the entire incident to confront the miscreant.

When she raised the issue, a few passengers apparently tried to dismiss it by saying that they were getting late and even suggested to her ask the accused to get off from the bus.

But she refused and approached the police, saying that such crimes should not be brought to notice or else it make the perpetrators bold. Police swung into action and arrested the accused.

The woman said, “When I confronted him, he blamed me and scolded me. That’s why I stopped him and made sure that he gets arrested.”

The victim further added that whenever a woman files a complaint pertaining to sexual harassment, she is asked to submit evidence. That is why I shot the video, she added. She also urged the state government to appoint bus conductors on point-to-point buses to avoid such incidents.
