CHENNAI: In a shot in the arm for the Tamil Nadu government’s reservation policy, its 7. 5% quota for students from government schools in professional courses, including MBBS, was upheld by Madras HC on Thursday. Thanks to the quota, more than 1,000 government school students got MBBS admissions in two years.
This year, the scheme was extended to all professio nal courses, considering the poor enrolment of underprivileged students from government schools in these courses.
The bench of Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari and Justice D Bharatha Chakravarthy directed the state to review the quota in five years as recommended by the panel constituted to study theissue.
