CHENNAI: The city will get a facelift under Singara Chennai 2. 0, with water fountains, LED lights and digital name boards.
Of the ₹23 crore allocated, ₹1. 81 crore will go to set up dynamic lighting for Ripon Buildings. Mayor R Priya said during festivals and national events, the permanent LED lighting structure will help colour the heritage structure.
She also announced that water fountains will be set up at 26 locations including Rajaji Salai-NSC Bose Road link, Dr Besant Salai and Arcot road at ₹1. 29 crore. The fountains will be operated in the evenings alone, said officials.
Apart from this, name boards at 4,681 places will be changed at ₹8. 4 crore. “All the name boards will be digitally printed and the details will reflect well on lighting,” she said.
The corporation will also set up a ramp at the Marina Beach and has set a target of planting 2,50,000 saplings. “We will achieve this with the help of residents’ welfare associations and private firms,” she said, adding that the drive had begun. The corporation has identified OSR lands and riverside areas of Adyar and Cooum to plant saplings.
