“Cases have been coming down steadily. We are asking people to take vaccinations and boosters. Booster doses for people above 45 are available at private hospitals. We will ensure people are not fleeced,” said health minister Ma Subramanian.
Chennai, which added 10 new cases, was the only district to report cases in two digits. Chengalpet reported four new cases followed by three in Madurai, two each in Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Ranipet and Tirupur. Krishnagiri, Tiruvallur and Trichy reported one case each. Twenty-eight of 38 districts reported zero cases.
Of the 229 active cases, Chennai had 95 followed by 32 patients in Chengalpet and 17 in Coimbatore. Twelve districts were Covid free where there were no patients with the viral infection and 22 districts had between one and eight active cases.
In Chennai, of the eight patients admitted to the hospitals, none of them was in intensive care units.
Meanwhile, 37,495 people took the vaccination against Covid-19 on Monday. This includes 8650 in the 12-14 age group and 6,984 in the 15-18 age group.
