Chennai News

CHENNAI: Eighteen more IIT-Madras students tested positive for Covid-19, and the cluster tally rose to 78 on Monday.
The health condition of all patients was stable and the Greater Chennai Corporation would continue to do saturation testing of all students and staff on the campus, health secretary J Radhakrishnan said.
“We have collected 609 more samples and the results are expected soon,” he said.
Nearly 30 students had travelled from states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Meghalaya, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.
“The transmission was rapid because they lived in closed spaces without masks and social distance. But the positivity rate is lesser now compared to 10 in December 2021,” IIT-M officials said.
The IIT administration isolated students with symptoms and those tested positive. All students on campus were advised to wear masks and maintain social distance.
