Pedal through trail of history with TTDC – Times of India

Chennai News

Chennai: TTDC chairman Sandeep Nanduri finally got a chance to explore the city’s history on his cycle in April and he is raring to go in June as well.
It was part of a cycling tour initiative by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, which is collaborating with city peddlers, the Cycling Yogis, for a series of two-wheel tours of Chennai. “I went on three trails —George Town, Portuguese and Armenian tours — and learned so much about the heritage buildings I have been passing daily on my way to work,” says Nanduri.
With the first four trails in April meeting with resounding success – TTDC had planned for 25 participants a tour but ended up having more than double the number sign up for each – around six are being planned for the second edition.
Some of the trails being planned are themed on the world wars, ancient Madras, the Irish and Scottish contributions, the medical heritage, and what we call the ‘charity trail’, says Ramaujar Moulana, founder of the Cycling Yogis, and the man leading the trails. The trails will be launched in June, July, and August. They usually take place between 5.30 am and 7.30 am and cover about 40-50 km of the city.
