Chennai, Tamil Nadu News Live Updates:  Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stones of 11 projects worth more than Rs 31,400 crore at JLN Indoor Stadium in Chennai tomorrow.  Ahead of the visit, the security has been tightened across the city. In a statement, the Greater Chennai Police said they have put in place a five-tier security and at least 22,000 police personnel would be deployed to ensure no untoward incidents occur during the event.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi Wednesday announced that schools for classes 1 to 10 will reopen after summer vacation on June 13. For students in class 11 and 12, schools will reopen on June 27 and June 20, respectively.

In another news, Tamil Nadu BJP’s minority wing leader was hacked to death by a gang in Chennai on Tuesday, according to the police. The deceased, identified as Balachander, 30, was the Chennai Central district secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Scheduled Caste wing. According to local reports, the incident happened around 7:30 pm in Chintadripet when Balachander was at a shop. The unidentified gang members attacked him before waylaying him and fled the spot. AIADMK coordinator and former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edapaddi K Palaniswami has alleged that Chennai has now become the “city of killings” leading to a scenario of uncertainty as regards security for the people.
