CHENNAI: The CB-CID arrested police inspector M Saravanan for kidnapping and threatening a businessman in 2019.
Saravanan is first police personnel to be arrested by the CB-CID in connection with this case. Other cops accused in the case — DSP-ranked officer Sivakumar, sub-inspector Pandiaraj and three other constables – are absconding.
Saravanan was being interrogated by the CB-CID team, said sources.
In his petition to the DGP, businessman Rajesh had alleged that Sivakumar, the then assistant commissioner of Tirumangalam, inspector Saravanan and sub-inspector Pandiaraj and others had held him under illegal detention, along with his mother, fiancée and her brother, in a farmhouse in Red Hills in 2019. They allegedly forced him to transfer valuable properties in the name of Tharun Krishna Prasad and Srinivasa Rao.
The CB-CID registered a case under eight sections of the IPC and on woman harassment charges in May after the DGP forwarded Rajesh’s petition to the investigation wing.
The CB-CID have already arrested Sri Kandan alias Kodambakkam Sri, Venkita Sivanaga Kumar, Dhanapal, Savukath Ali, Nandakunar and Saravanakumar in connection with the case. While Dhanapal allegedly provided a hideout for Sivakumar, the last three accused were helping the accused financially to evade arrest.
