Chennai, Tamil Nadu News Live Updates July 19: In response to the deceased girl’s father’s plea, the Supreme Court refuses to grant an interim stay on the re-postmortem ordered by Madras High Court: ANI. A day after massive violence broke out near Kallakurichi in Tamil Nadu over the death of a 17-year-old girl, the Madras High Court Monday ordered re-postmortem of the victim and directions to form a special team to arrest all those who vandalised. Hearing a plea moved by the deceased girl’s father seeking a re-postmortem after suspecting foul play, Justice N Sathish Kumar of the Madras HC questioned the ransacking of the school and burning of transfer certificates of 4,500 during the violence.

Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced a hike in the power tariff for Tangedco consumers proposing an increase of Rs 27.50 (per month) for those using up to 200 units and 65 paise per unit rise for railways and educational institutions. There would be no change in the scheme of providing free electricity of up to 100 units, Electricity Minister V Senthil Balaji said and claimed the increase was inevitable to reduce the mounting debts of the state power utility.

In other news, State Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said on Monday that seeing the success of Tamil Nadu’s door-to-door medical check-up (Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam) scheme, the Central government has sought its pattern to implement across the country. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has sought details about the scheme for implementation across India, when he had met him twice in the recent days, Subramaniam told reporters at the city airport here.
