The Union government has finalised Parandur near Sriperumbudur as the site for the second greenfield airport in Chennai. Parandur, is around 70 km from the city. While responding to a query raised by DMK’s NVN Kanimozhi NVN Somu at the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh Monday said that after comparing the viability and feasibility including the presence of habitations and industrial establishments and the land acquisitions cost of both sides, the state government had shortlisted Parandur as the location for the development of Greenfield airport.

He added that as per the provisions of the Greenfield Airport Policy (2008), the state government is now required to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) for grant of ‘Site Clearance’ for the finalised site.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in parts of Tamil Nadu over the Tirunelveli, Thenkasi, Theni, Nilgiris, Erode, Dharmapuri, Salem, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Karur, Namakkal, Tiruchirapalli, and Ariyalur districts Monday.
