With the fresh order of the Madras HC, the position of Palaniswami as the single, supreme leader of AIADMK has been re-established.
The division bench comprising Justices M Duraiswamy and Sundar Mohan today upheld the validity of the AIADMK General Council meeting on the appeal of Palaniswami and set aside the previous order by the single bench of Justice G Jayachandran in favour of former Deputy CM O Panneerselvam

“Earlier order by a single judge has been set aside by the division bench. They upheld the validity of the AIADMK General Council meet,” Inbadurai, former MLA and one of the advocates representing the EPS camp, told the media after the HC order.
Justice Jayachandran’s order had invalidated the AIADMK General Council meeting held on July 11 that had elected Leader of Opposition Palaniswami as the interim general secretary of the party. The post of general secretary is the highest post in AIADMK.
At the same July 11 General Council meeting, Panneerselvam was expelled from the party by the EPS camp.
However, on August 17, Justice Jayachandran had by way of the court order directed for the maintenance of status-quo ante as of June 23. On June 23, Panneerselvam was the Coordinator and Palaniswami the Joint Coordinator of AIADMK.
Meanwhile, following the Madras HC order, the Tamil Nadu police have deployed its personnel outside the AIADMK office to maintain the law and order situation.
