Chennai, Tamil Nadu News Highlights: Before the launch of the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on September 7, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will take part in a prayer meeting at former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial in Sriperumbudur and attend an event in Kanyakumari where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin will hand over the national flag to him, sources said on Friday.

The Madras High Court on Friday set aside a previous order invalidating the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (AIADMK’s) July 11 general council meeting. With the latest order, former Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami’s (EPS) appointment as the interim general secretary at the July 11 meeting has been restored, lending yet another twist to the ongoing legal battle with his rival O Panneerselvam (OPS) to capture the party.

Heavy rainfall lashed Chennai and its neighbouring districts on Thursday resulting in waterlogging in several low-lying areas in the city. The Greater Chennai Police and the State Disaster Response Force are gearing up for any flood-like situation in the city. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain showers in many parts of Tamil Nadu for the next four to five days.
