As the first round of intense rainfall arrived in the city, several residents took to Twitter to share the visuals of the downpour. Rain was continuing in many parts of the city.
According to weather experts, Chennai will be receiving heavy rainfall with lightning and thunderstorms in the coming week till November 4. On Saturday, the India Meteorological Department announced the official arrival of the northeast monsoon in Tamil Nadu.

Ahead of the monsoon, GCC installed several motor pumps in parts of the city to pump water out of the residential areas in case of waterlogging. Civic staff have been deployed on night duty in 114 flood-prone areas across the city. The corporation has also opened a control room has been set up to mitigate challenges regarding flooding.
