Chennai News Live Updates, November 11, 2022: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reached Dindigul in Tamil Nadu to take part in the 36th convocation ceremony of the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI). Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place. More than 4,000 police personnel have been deployed around Dindigul and other neighbouring districts. The police said surveillance has been increased and they are carrying out checks at major public gathering points, including railway stations, bus stands as well as in lodges, ahead of the prime minister’s visit. The police have also made alternate traffic arrangements in the state’s Dindigul and Madurai districts ahead of PM Modi’s visit.

An average of 64.5mm of rainfall was recorded in Chennai in the past 24 hours till 8:30am on Friday, Tamil Nadu Municipal Administration Minister K N Nehru said even as a Regional Meteorological Centre official said most parts of the state, neighbouring Puducherry and its Karaikal area would likely receive rain on three more days. “In the next three days, rainfall is likely to occur in most places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area. In the next 24 hours, some of the areas in Cuddalore and the Delta districts are likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall. Some of the areas in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Chengalpet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tirupathur, Krishnagiri, Salem, Dharmapuri districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. In districts close to the Western Ghats, heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some areas,” S Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, said.

The Supreme Court Friday ordered the release of two convicts serving life imprisonment in connection with the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Nalini Sriharan and R P Ravichandran. The bench, comprising Justices BR Gavai and BV Nagarathna, passed the order while taking into consideration the case of A G Perarivalan, another convict who was released in May.
