By Akshaya Nath: The Madras High Court on Tuesday granted permission to a private school in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi district to reopen, four months after it was closed after a Class 12 student jumped from the hostel building of the school.
There was a lot of public outrage against the school after a Class 12 student jumped off the hostel building in July this year. The school was vandalised and the family suspected foul play and alleged that the school had a role to play in the student’s death.
A three-member panel of doctors from the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in Puducherry was formed to probe the death and go through the two post-mortem reports to find out if there was any foul play. The doctors dismissed any kind of foul play and stated that the student died due to the fall from the building.
The Madras High Court has now allowed the school to reopen and permitted physical classes for students from classes 9 to 12.
