Chennai News Live Updates, November 22, 2022: The depression over southwest Bay of Bengal is likely to gradually weaken into a well-marked low pressure area on Tuesday morning. As a result, light-to-moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining Rayalaseema today, the India Meteorological Department said.

On Wednesday (November 23), light-to-moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places over north coastal Andhra Pradesh, north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalseema.

In other news, a political commentator on social media — Kishore K Swamy — was arrested on Monday for allegedly making derogatory comments against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin. He had reportedly targeted Stalin over the recent rains and waterlogging in Chennai.

Cases of conjunctivitis, commonly referred to as “Madras eye”, have been on the rise in Tamil Nadu since the onset of the monsoon. Health Minister Ma Subramanian said around 80-100 people on an average were getting affected by this disease in Chennai and close to 4,500 people across the state daily. Salem and Dharmapuri are among the districts that have higher numbers of cases.
