Coimbatore car blast: NIA gets custody of five accused – Times of India

CHENNAI: A special court at Poonamallee in Chennai has granted nine days’ custody of five accused in the October 23 Coimbatore car blast case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
B Firose Khan, 28, K Umar Farooq, 35, M Mohammed Azaruddin, 23, I Ferros, 27, and H Afsar Khan (28) were produced before the NIA special court at Poonamallee on Tuesday. Their NIA custody will end on December 29.
So far, nine people have been arrested in the case – six by the Coimbatore police and three by the NIA. Of the five taken to the NIA custody, Umar Farooq and Firose Khan were arrested by the NIA while the other three were arrested by the Coimbatore police when they were investigating the case.
Afsar Khan is a relative of Jamesha Mubeen, who died in the blast near Kottai Easwaran temple in Ukkadam area in Coimbatore. The LPG cylinder in the car he was driving exploded in the early hours of October 23. Investigations revealed that Jamesha Mubeen was an ISIS sympathizer. Various incriminating materials were seized during the searches at his house.
