A 60-year-old man was beaten to death with a beer bottle after the accused was denied free liquor at Triplicane on Thursday. The deceased man, identified as Mohan of Madurai, was employed at a bakery shop in Triplicane. Mohan and the accused, Mahendran, consumed liquor together.
On January 1, Mahendran demanded that Mohan part with his liquor but when he was refused, Mahendran attacked the old man with a beer bottle, leaving him in a pool of blood.
The injured man was admitted to a government hospital, where he succumbed to injuries on Thursday. Mahendran was arrested and sent to jail.
