CHENNAI: A 48-year-old techie jumped to death from the seventh floor of his office building on the Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram radial road on Saturday night, unable to cope with work pressure, police said.
The man, Shyam Sundar of Porur, was employed as a manager at the software firm for the past one year. Police said that on Saturday night he suddenly left the office, climbed up to the seventh floor and jumped. A security guard heard a loud thud and went to investigate. He found Shyam Sundar lying in a pool of blood and raised the alarm.
The Thoraipakkam police took Shyam Sundar, who had severe head injuries, to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was sent for a postmortem to the Government Royapettah hospital.
Preliminary police investigations revealed that Shyam Sundar, an engineering graduate, was unable to cope with the work pressure. “He was disturbed for the last one week. He was unable to perform well and faced difficulty in completing his work and understanding a few concepts,” said Thoraipakkam inspector Senthil Murugan.
“Though he disliked his work, he was forced to continue as he had to repay a bank loan,” the inspector said. Shyam Sundar did not leave behind any suicide note.
