‘Keep Google Maps on’; Traffic diversion announced in Chennai for Pongal celebrations at Marina beach – Times Now

Chennai: Thousands of people from different parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to throng Chennai’s Marina beach on Tuesday to celebrate Kaanum Pongal. In view of the huge gathering, the Chennai Traffic Police announced traffic diversions in and around Kamarajar Salai on Tuesday.
“On account of Kaanum Pongal celebration on January 17, a large number of the public may congregate on many roads in Chennai City, particularly on Kamarajar Salai. In this connection, the traffic diversion will be made in accordance with the situation,” the traffic police said.

Salai to reach their destination.
  • The vehicles from Adyar will be diverted at Kannagi Statue towards Bharathi Salai, Bells road, Wallajah road to reach their destination. Bharathi Salai stretch will be made one way with entry from Kannagi Statue and No entry from Wallajah Road X Bells road Junction.
  • Victoria Hostel Road will be made one way with ‘Entry’ from Wallajah salai Jn and ‘No Entry’ from Bharathi Salai Jn.

Whenever a diversion is made functional, the information of the same will be made available via RoadEase app on Google Maps within 10 minutes. The police requested the motorists to keep a track of the diversion through Google Maps.

Chennai police have made elaborate arrangements for Pongal celebrations in the city. More than 15,000 police personnel drawn from State police, city Police and 1,000 Home Guards would be on security duty on the Marina beach stretch and in other parts of the city.

Tomorrow marks the culmination of the four-day Pongal festivities in Tamil Nadu.
