Chennai: Authors and publishers from at least 30 countries unveiled their works at the maiden International Book Fair at Chennai, inaugurated by state school education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Monday.
At this B2B exhibition, Tamil Nadu government is expected to release the list of books which are to be translated into Tamil. This might include medical books, Poyyamozhi told reporters.
“This event is aimed at not only bringing the world to Tamil but also taking Tamil to the world as we expect 30 to 50 Tamil books to be translated into other languages and TN has sanctioned ₹1.5 crore as translation grant towards this,” he said, adding that so far only 100 Tamil books have been translated into other languages. Consuls General of Germany, US, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand have displayed their best works at the pavilions earmarked. The organisers have scheduled interactive sessions with foreign authors (both online and offline) at these pavilions for the next two days.
