CHENNAI: A special court for POCSO cases in Chennai sentenced a 27-year-old man to 20 years of imprisonment and slapped him with a fine of Rs 15,000 for the sexual assault of a 7-year-old girl in 2018.
The neighbour lured the girl into the house with some chocolates and sexually assaulted her on August 23, 2018.
The child told her mother about the assault. The mother filed a complaint with the Teynampet all-woman police. He was charged under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
The judgment was pronounced on January 23 by M Rajalakshmi, sessions judge for exclusive trial of POCSO cases.
The court directed the government to give Rs 5 lakh as compensation along with the fine amount levied on the convict.
