The state of Tamil Nadu reported its first coronavirus case on March 7 in which a 45-year-old engineer hailing from Kancheepuram had tested positive after returning from Oman. The govt is screening all those who come to the state from various foreign destinations and those showing symptoms were isolated and given proper treatment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGH).
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami said facilities are available to give proper treatment to those people if they show symptoms of the virus.
The number of confirmed cases of a novel coronavirus in the country has risen to 75, with the country reporting its first COVID-19 death in Karnataka. Samples of the 76-year-old man from Kalaburgi, who died on March 10 tested positive for COVID-19. He had recently returned to India on February 29 after spending a month in Saudi Arabia and had co-morbidities such as asthma, hypertension and diabetes.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
