98% of Covid-19 cases in Chennai are asymptomatic: Tamil Nadu govt – India Today

As many as 98 per cent of Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai are asymptomatic, Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash said on Thursday afternoon.

Chennai saw the highest spike in Covid-19 cases reported in a single day on Thursday. 138 of the 161 cases in the state were reported from Chennai, taking the number of cases in the city to 906.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu are now at 2,323. Of them, 1,035 are active Covid-19 cases.

The medical expert committee constituted by the Tamil Nadu government said lockdown has to be lifted in a phased manner as the status of recovering from coronavirus is not equal across all districts.

They have recommended that people should continue to follow the norms of social distancing and personal hygiene including keeping their hands clean. The committee has recommended people to avoid mass gatherings and crowding.
