Madras high court

CHENNAI: After a more than six-week lockdown, the Madras high court has decided to function to its full capacity from June 1. But there is a catch: only judges will occupy the court halls/chambers; the proceedings will happen only through video-conferencing. Lawyers won’t be allowed in.
An internal circular informed judges it had been decided to move towards ‘staggered functioning’ of the court and that all 33 benches would begin hearing from the respective court halls ‘through video-conferencing’. The decision was taken by the HC administrative panel and it comes three days after Justice D Y Chandrachud of the Supreme Court inaugurated the virtual courts on May 26.
