Intense lockdown in Chennai: Officials asked to ensure people don’t come out unnecessarily – Times of India

CHENNAI: Greater Chennai Corporation commissioner G Prakash has asked ward level officials to follow two strategies to curb Covid-19 spread during the intense lockdown that will come into force on June 19. The strategies are: ensure people do not come out of their area and send volunteers to every household to conduct survey on symptomatic cases.
All the assistant engineers have been instructed to prepare a list of provision stores, milk, medical and water can shops and hold meeting with their owners to ensure door delivery as much as possible.
“We should ensure that people do not come out unnecessarily and even essentials reach their doorsteps. We will finalise a list of shops by evening and send the list with their phone numbers to all residents of that ward. Police will also be involved in these meetings with shop owners and for total coordination. In slums maximum number of pushcarts will be allowed to ply,” said an official.
For the second part of the strategy, 12,000 workers will be given thermal scanners and other medical equipment to ensure all patients with symptoms are tracked.
Chief secretary K Shanmugham said, “Instruction has been issued to conduct universal survey in all household to identify any symptomatic cases in lockdown area using this opportunity. In other words, the survey or surveillance is not confined to quarantine houses and containment area. This is a massive exercise to clean up the area.”
