Chennai: The coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on our lives and brought our life to a standstill. In order to adjust to the new normal, IT park in Chennai is leaving no stones unturned to welcome its workers post COVID-19 with proper safety measures. As social distancing has become the need of the hour, the offices are taking measures to make sure these norms are not flouted.

In order to ensure minimum touch and curb the spread of COVID-19 infections, proper planning is being done to introduce high-end Internet of Things (IoT) features. Although the process may take more than  5 years and involves a huge amount, the IT parks are taking all such measures to protect the employees.

Facilities available

As many organisations have asked the employees to work from home, thus when they return to the office, they are going to witness many changes right from the entry point of the workplace to the washroom. In order to boost the confidence of the employees, the workplace will have automatic scanners at the entrance and will be monitored before entering the workplace. Also, there will also be a facility for the separate quarantined room if the body temperature is high. The QR code elevators will be a new addition where people need not press the button of the lift in order to avoid high touch surfaces. Rather they can scan the QR code on the lift and enter the floor where we want to go.

Other Facilities

Also, for lower floors, people will be asked to use the staircase in place of elevators. Modified punching machine will allow them to scan the cards from a distance which will help in opening doors automatically. Even the water dispensers would have sensors to avoid touching the button regularly. The workplaces here will take all possible measures to ensure social distancing. The washrooms will now have a partition till toe level and eating tables will now have a partition to avoid the spread of coronavirus.

According to TOI, Indialand Tech Park at Coimbatore has already brought some of these features. “Various steps including non-touch access control and elevators have improved the safety of employees and increased confidence among users,” Salai Kumaran, CEO, Indialand Group said.

Other Key things

In order to ensure the workers are safe, IT Parks and SEZs in and around Chennai which offers 60 million sq ft of office space are planning to bring in such features like revolving doors and much more. Although it will require a hefty amount of 1 lakh, the step is necessary to boost morale and make the workplaces safe for the employees. R Murugesan, managing director of ARAM Realty said to TOI that IT parks will offer features which will match international levels soon.
