Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Chennai sees slight fall in fresh Covid-19 cases – Times of India

CHENNAI: After recording more than 6,000 fresh Covid-19 cases for the last two days, Tamil Nadu on Monday reported added 5,956 cases. The total number of cases reached 428,041.
At the end of the day, there were 52,578 people under treatment.
The cumulative death toll went up to 7,322 with the state on Monday reporting 91 fatalities.
In August, the state reported 1,82,182 cases and 3,387 deaths compared to 1,55,692 cases and 2,289 deaths in July.
Chennai reported 1,150 fresh cases, while the adjoining three districts Chengalpet (347), Kancheepuram (187) and Tiruvallur (299) together added 833 cases and 16 deaths. The region added 1,983 cases and 35 deaths. After 2,135 patients were discharged, the active cases in the region were 19,630.
While cases in Chennai were plateauing, Coimbatore had 589 cases, followed by 497 cases in Salem pushing the epidemic curve in the Western region. While Chennai reported 19 deaths, the northern districts reported 53 deaths. The western districts reported 19 deaths, with 14 of them in Coimbatore.
The seven other northern districts added 985 cases.
The ten districts in the south reported 887 cases. While 129 were reported from Dindigul, 127 were from Madurai and 111 from Tuticorin. While Tenkasi reported 94, Virudhunagar had 90 and Theni reported 77. Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga had 29 and 26 cases each.
Among the 656 cases in the central districts, there were 125 in Thanjavur, 113 in Thiruvarur, 105 in Nagapattinam, 95 in Trichy, 86 in Pudukkottai and 75 in Ariyalur, taking the total number of deaths to 10.
