Coronavirus in Tamil Nadu: Fresh Covid-19 cases remain below 1,000 in Chennai, above 500 in Coimbatore – Times of India

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu on Friday reported 5,976 fresh Covid-19 cases and 79 deaths. The number of active cases was 51,633 while the total tally rose to 4,51,827. Death toll reached 7,687.
As many as 6,334 patients were discharged on Friday. It takes the total number of discharged patients to 3,92,507.
New infections in Chennai was below 1,000 for the second day. The city reported 992 fresh cases which took its total confirmed cases to 1,39,720. As many as 12,003 people are under treatment in the city.
Chennai’s three neighbouring districts recorded a total of 784 cases. They include 370 cases in Chengalpet, 154 in Kancheepuram and 260 in Tiruvallur.
Two other districts recorded more than 400 cases which include Coimbatore with 595 and Cuddalore with 499 new cases. Tiruvannamalai recorded 216 cases and Salem reported 239 new cases.
Among those who tested positive, six were passengers who arrived in domestic flights while 19 others who tested positive arrived from other states by road.
As many 81,588 people were tested. This has taken the total number of people tested in the state to 49,62,357.
