Chennai: Tenant wins elderly landlady’s trust, forges documents to enchroach on her property worth Rs 40 lakh – Times Now

Chennai: Scam artists play to their target’s emotions, not intelligence. In one such incident, a man identified as Munusamy alias Stephen, wormed into the confidence of his 81-year-old landlady, identified as Saroj of Chennai’s Chembaramkkam, by offering her help whenever she needed and later, forged her property documents in his own name.

Saroj, who is a retired employee of the postal department, has rented out several houses owned by her in the locality. In one of her houses, Stephen used to reside with. Saroj started considering him family as over the years, he helped her whenever she needed. On multiple occasions, she handed over him huge sums of money for depositing in her bank account as she blindly trusted him, police said.

Revenue official visit woman’s house 

Recently, revenue officials came to Saroj’s house to survey the property, taking her by a shock. They told her that the ownership of the house has been transferred out in Stephen’s name as she had sold it. Following this, Saroj narrated the entire matter to her two daughters and then approached the Nazarethpet Police Station and lodged a complaint against Stephen, according to a report by The Times of India.

Police investigations reveal truth 

During investigations, police discovered that Stephens, in order to encroach upon Saroj’s property worth Rs 40 lakh had forged documents. They also learned that he had swindled around Rs 8 lakh from the octogenarian. Saroj had handed over him money on several occasions for depositing in her account. This was the same money, investigations revealed. Thereafter, police registered a case of cheating against Stephen and arrested him.
