The Pulicat bird sanctuary in Tiruvallur district has been declared an ecologically sensitive zone to ensure total protection. A senior Chennai wildlife official said the demarcated area, within a 500 metre radius, will include the villages of Elavur, Injur, Selliabedu, Uppanavoyal, Periaveppathur, Kolur, Poovami, Tirupalaivanam, Pralayambakkam, Andarmadam and Thangal Perumkulam.
