Tamil Nadu Covid curfew news live: State sees all-time daily high of 147 deaths

With 113 people succumbing to Covid-19 on Friday, deaths crossed the three-digit mark for the second consecutive day this year in Tamil Nadu. It was the highest daily toll this year for the state and Chennai, with 42 deaths, recorded the highest daily toll since the pandemic began last year. This has taken the state’s death toll to 14,046. The state recorded 18,692 new cases which pushed active cases to 1,15,128 and the total confirmed infections to 11,66,756. At least 35 of the 37 districts in the state recorded more than 100 new cases while 27 districts recorded deaths. Ranipet had the second highest number of deaths at 12, followed by Salem (10). The new cases include 583 people aged under 12 years and 27 people who arrived from other states on the road.After Chennai, the most number of active infections are in Chengelpet (8,087), Tiruvallur (5,564), Coimbatore (6,943), Madurai (4,207) and Kancheepuram (3,008).
