Yamuna was returning home on her two wheeler when a Hyundai Creta car hit her vehicle head-on

CHENNAI: A 21-year-old woman, who worked as a lab technician at Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) hospital, died after meeting with a road accident on Barnaby Road on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as A Yamuna, who was employed as an ECG staff to implement the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme at KMC.
Yamuna was returning home on her two wheeler when a Hyundai Creta car hit her vehicle head-on.
The car driver drove away after the accident, however, he was chased by passers by and caught one kilometer away from the accident spot.
The driver was later handed over to the Anna Square traffic investigation wing police.
Police identified the accused as Abdul Qayyum, 37, who was under the influence of alcohol during the accident.
Yamuna, a resident of Padalam near Tambaram, suffered severe injuries on her head.
She was admitted to KMC and later referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
She breathed her last without responding to the treatment on Friday night.
The police booked Abdul under IPC Sections 304 (II) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
Police also seized his car.
Yamuna’s body was handed over to her family members after performing an autopsy at the GH on Saturday.
The police produced Abdul Qayyum before a magistrate court and was remanded in sub-jail.
