Chennai, Hyderabad Coronavirus News Live Updates: Tamil Nadu recorded 33,764 positive cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state tally to 19,45,260. Among these, Chennai reported 3561 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 4,91,197. The state recorded 475 deaths on Wednesday, putting the state toll at 21,815. 347 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities. A total of 29,717 patients were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries to 16,13,221.

Continuing to witness a decline in daily fresh infections, Telangana on Wednesday clocked 3,762 new COVID-19 cases taking the tally to over 5.63 lakh, while the toll stood at 3,189 with 20 more deaths. The total number of cumulative cases in the state stood at 5,63,903 and with 3,816 being cured, the total recoveries were at 5,22,082.

Tamil Nadu Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi Tuesday said the state will set up a separate committee to handle complaints of sexual assault from school students. He further said many schools are not duly following guidelines issued to conduct online classes and hence they will review and implement the procedures the schools needed to follow.

Claiming that trees have been felled to widen a road on Hyderabad’s outskirts despite a Telangana High Court stay, a city-based NGO has issued a legal notice to the state government for not honouring court orders, and has said will initiate contempt proceedings soon. The Court had on May 13 stayed the felling of 244 trees in Gandipet and asked authorities to consider translocation, as requested by the NGO.
