Chennai, Hyderabad Coronavirus News Live Updates: Tamil Nadu recorded 9,118 positive cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, bringing the state tally to 23,97,864. Among these, Coimbatore reported 1,227 cases while Chennai reported 559 positive cases, bringing the city’s total to 5,27,835. The state recorded 210 deaths on Thursday, putting the state toll at 30,548. A total of 166 of them had succumbed due to comorbidities. As many as 22,720 patients were discharged following treatment, taking the total number of recoveries to 22,66,793.

V Pugazhendhi, the spokesperson of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), was among those expelled from the party this week over anti-party activities. The decision was taken at a meeting of newly elected MLAs in Chennai on Monday. Earlier, Pugazhendhi was shown the door for joining TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) after J Jayalalithaa’s death in 2016. He returned to the AIADMK in early 2020 after a fallout with Dhinakaran.

A 12-year-old lion succumbed to coronavirus at Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP) at Vandalur on Wednesday, making it the second such casualty at the zoo after the death of a lioness on June 3. The lion, named Pathbanathan, housed in the safari area, passed away at 10:15 am as per the official release by the zoo.

At least six Maoists, including two women, were killed in an exchange of fire with a Greyhound special forces unit in Visakhapatnam district on Wednesday morning, Andhra Pradesh Police said. Among those killed was a senior Maoist leader, police said in a statement.
