CHENNAI: The city received moderate rainfall with thunderstorms starting around 2am on Monday. The city woke up to cloudy skies and drizzles. The IMD has forecast light rain over some areas in the next 24 hours.
The rainfall was caused by convective activities. As the monsoon is weak in most parts of the country, the entry of sea breeze into the land which absorbed heat during the day, is causing the convection.
Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 18.8mm and 33.1mm of rain. Poonamallee registered 58.5mm and Sathyabhama University 10mm. Chembarambakkam 43.5mm and YMCA Nandanam 29.5mm. Taramani 27mm and West Tambaram 32.5mm.
