CHENNAI: A man staged an abduction to extort 50 lakh from his mother in Malaysia.
On Wednesday, the Choolaimedu police received a call from a woman named Sulekha from Malaysia. She informed police that her 25-year-old son Imran, who was in the city for business, was kidnapped and his abductors demanded a ransom of 50 lakh. Police rushed to the house where Imran was staying and was informed by his friends that he was taken away by three men.
Since the house was located within the jurisdiction of the Aminjikarai police station, the local police took over the investigation and launched a search for the kidnappers. However, to the officers’s surprise, Imran himself appeared at the station and clarified that he had not been kidnapped. Investigation revealed that Imran had taken a loan of 50 lakh from a friend for his eatery business and did not return the sum. The two decided to get the money from Imran’s mother. They called her claiming that Imran had been kidnapped and demanded a ransom of 50 lakh for his release.
Police let Imran off with a warning and closed the case after Sulekha withdrew her complaint.
