Tamil Nadu news live: Spike in new Covid cases in Chennai for 2nd day

While fresh cases of Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu dropped to 1,756 on Wednesday, at least 15 districts including Chennai, reported a spike in new cases. The total number of deaths reported in the state was stable at 29. Airfares have increased on international routes from Chennai because of a spike in demand after countries in Europe have started to allow vaccinated travellers making it easier for people to travel for business and leisure. The student traffic too is adding to the demand. As work on the ground begins for the construction of the 118.9km phase-2 project, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) starts shopping for 70 new driverless trains which it expects to get delivered within five years.
