Tamil Nadu Chennai News Live Updates: A total of 90,938 posters have been removed across Chennai by the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) till Monday as a part of the civic body’s poster removal campaign. According to the GCC, 22,251 posters have been removed in North Chennai, 27,694 in Central Chennai and 40,993 in South Chennai.

President Ram Nath Kovind, who is on a five-day tour of Tamil Nadu from August 2 to August 6 will leave for Nilgiris today. The President presided over the 100th year of the Madras Legislative Council and unveiled the portrait of five-time Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at St Fort George in Chennai. On August 4, he will visit the Defence Services Staff College at Wellington near Ooty and address the student officers of the 77th staff course. He would stay at the Raj Bhavan there and leave for Delhi on August 6.

Actor and Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Coimbatore District Collector urging to resume the Grama Sabha meetings. Haasan, who is on a two-day visit to Coimbatore to thank the people for voting him in the recently concluded Assembly elections, met Collector GS Sameeran and placed several demands which included notifying the people about the Grama Sabha meetings seven days before they are held.

A total of 22,02,045 passengers have travelled via metro in Chennai ever since Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) resumed operations on June 21 this year. In a statement, CMRL said 22,02,045 passengers had availed metro services from June 21 to July 31. While 3,55,579 passengers had travelled from June 21 to June 30, a total of 18,46,466 passengers had travelled via metro from July 1 to July 31.
