Covid-19: Chennai tops state with 139 new cases – Times of India

Chennai (139) and Coimbatore (125) were the only districts to report more than 100 new cases.

CHENNAI: Fifteen districts reported a marginal increase in cases on Wednesday, when the fresh cases in the state dropped to 1,075 from 1,090 on Tuesday. After recording 12 deaths and discharging 1,315 people, TN had 12,288 active cases.
Chennai (139) and Coimbatore (125) were the only districts to report more than 100 new cases. At least 22 districts reported fewer than 20 cases each and among them 10 reported fewer than 10 cases. With just two new cases each, Theni and Kallakurichi reported the fewest fresh cases, followed by Perambalur (4). The sharpest increase in the last 24 hours was reported in Tirunelveli, where cases went up to 22 on Wednesday from 14 on Tuesday. Similarly, in Ramanathapuram cases went up to 7 from 2.
Of the 12 deaths reported on Wednesday, Coimbatore and Tiruppur had three each followed by two in Tiruvallur. Chennai, Kancheepuram, Nilgiris and Madurai reported one death each. Meanwhile, the state vaccinated 1.1 lakh people on Wednesday at various government centres. Of the targeted 11.7 crore doses, the dosage tally hit 5.4 crore in government vaccination centres.
