Thunderstorm with moderate rain is likely to occur at most places over north Tamilnadu and many places over south Tamilnadu.

Tamil Nadu News Live Updates: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during next 5 days.

“A cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining equatorial Indian ocean off Sumatra Coast and extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. Under its influence a low pressure area is likely to form over Southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around 9th November,” IMD said.

It is likely to become more marked and move west-northwestwards towards north Tami Nadu coast during the subsequent 48 hours, the department said. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) observations, beginning on Deepavali day and ending the following day morning, indicated that the air quality status in Chennai is very poor, the government said on Friday. Also, there was a substantial increase in pollutants in the metropolis when compared to the previous year, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board said.

Meanwhile, about 2,000 cases have been registered by police across Tamil Nadu against those who violated the Supreme Court directives in respect of firecrackers, police sources said, reported PTI.

In other news, amid his state’s ongoing standoff with Kerala over the Mullaperiyar dam issue, Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan on Friday said the water level in the reservoir would be raised to 152 feet after strengthening the baby dam. He also said he thinks the issue could be resolved only during the ‘time’ of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
