CHENNAI: The Avadi police have arrested a woman on charges of cheating a policeman and his brother of 32 lakh.
Police said she pretended to be a doctor and befriended Bharathiraja, 25, a constable with the Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion, on a social media networking site in January this year.
She promised to marry him and got him to send her money to buy clothes and jewellery. She never met him in person and sent him a fake photo of herself. She also spoke to the family members of Bharathiraja.
After she got a lot of money out of him, she switched off her phone.
Only later Bharathiraja came to know that she had similarly cheated his brother Mahendran out of lakhs of rupees pretending to be the doctor’s sister Dikshi Reddy.
Police nabbed the woman using her bank account number. It turned out she ran a ‘fancy store’ in the locality and was named Aishwarya.
