Deep depression may bring light rain in next two days – Times of India

Chennai News

Chennai: The deep depression currently over Bay of Bengal is expected to bring light rain over parts of the city and the suburbs at least for the next two days. The system, stationary on Saturday evening, is also expected to bring heavy spells over some parts of coastal parts and a few interior places in Tamil Nadu.
The IMD’s evening bulletin said the depression over southwest Bay of Bengal was practically stationary and lay centered at 5.30pm over the same region, 320km east-northeast of Nagapattinam, and about 270 km east-southeast of Chennai. It is likely to move west-southwestwards towards north TN coast and weaken gradually during next 12 hours into a depression and into a well-marked low pressure area during the subsequent 24 hours.
“As per the current conditions, any rain activity can be expected from Sunday afternoon,” said P Senthamarai Kannan, director, Regional Weather Forecasting Centre, IMD Chennai.
Heavy spells are likely over a few delta districts, Villupuram and Cuddalore on Sunday. On Monday, heavy to very heavy rain may occur over isolated places of Villupuram, Cuddalore and delta districts and heavy rain at isolated places along the coast.
In Chennai and the suburbs, light rain is forecast over some areas as the skies may remain generally cloudy for the next 48 hours. Maximum and minimum temperature may hover at 32C and 23C. The average rainfall in the city in March is 3.5mm.
Blogger Pradeep John said the system had started weakening under the influence of dry westerly winds. “It will move towards the coast on Sunday. Areas from Chennai to Cuddalore can expect some rain between Sunday night and Monday morning.”
Skymet Weather said the system may weaken over the sea and may not travel deep inland.
