Madras high court quashes FIR filed against man for violating Covid-19 lockdown restrictions – Times of India

MADURAI: The Madras high court has quashed an FIR registered against a man for violating Covid-19 lockdown restrictions in Madurai district.
The court was hearing the petition filed by P Manikandan, seeking to quash the case registered against him by the Othakadai police.
The case of the prosecution is that the petitioner was roaming on his two-wheeler on June 26, 2020 in violation of the lockdown restrictions.
Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan said the government had taken a policy decision not to pursue the cases registered for violations of lockdown restrictions. The judge said continuance of prosecution was not warranted and hence quashed the FIR against the petitioner.
